4 Signs of Colon Cancer

If there is one thing that everybody is afraid of, that is definitely to be diagnosed with cancer. Today we will talk about colon cancer, as this is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the US. Did you know that your doctor can administer preventive screening tests for different types of cancer, such as breast, skin, prostate and colon cancer? This is probably the best news you have red today. But lets see what are the signs of colon cancer?

  • Changes in your normal bowel habits, such as bowel movements that are either more or less frequent than normal. You can have diarrhea or constipation, that happens for no obvious reason and lasts longer than three weeks;
  • Unexpected weight loss, when you are not dieting or trying to lose weight;
  • Blood in your stool – don’t assume you have hemorrhoids till the doctor says so. If you have bleeding, make an appointment and find out what the problem is;
  • Feeling that you haven’t emptied your bowel properly after going to the bathroom;

Many people are afraid of colon cancer screening. May be embarrassing but think about how many procedures like this has your doctor performed before. That’s right! Probably thousands.

Another important factor is your family history. For instance, in the UK 25% of all bowel cancer cases diagnosed has a family history. Generally speaking, the more members of the family are affected by bowel cancer, and the younger they were at diagnosis, the greater the chance of a family link it is.

So remember! If you have experienced any of these symptoms for three weeks or more don’t hesitate and make an appointment. It could save your life or confirm that you are healthy as a horse.
