Does yogurt help relieve constipation?

Staying hydrated, eating enough fiber and being active every day can help improve the regularity of your bowel movements, but sometimes the foods you eat every day, such as yogurt, could be causing your constipation. What I would do to make sure my favourite yogurt isn’t my “enemy” is to have a two weeks break. This time you will see if there are any improvements in your bowel movements.

In the mean time I would keep a food diary to see if there is any other connection between constipation and what I’m eating on a regular basis.  If you do not see any improvements after 2 weeks, your constipation is probably due to something else. There is no point to stick to your yogurt-free diet if it doesn’t cause the constipation.

On the other side, don’t forget that yogurt comes from milk. So eating yogurt you will get a dose of animal protein, calcium, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-12, potassium, and magnesium. That’s why I would do this exercise.

But let’s see what is the best yogurt that can actually help you in constipation.

When you are going to the supermarket you are in front of so many types of yogurt and it is so hard to choose the best yogurt for constipation. What nutritionists say is that greek yogurt for constipation is by far one of the most effective foods that relieve constipation, because it has the most nutrients among all other types of yogurt. Some studies have shown that probiotics from yogurt are an effective non-drug cure for constipation and this is not marketing.

And another interesting fact is that consuming 1,200 milligrams of calcium per day can reduce your chances of developing colon cancer by 75% which is huge. So if you ask me, I think yogurt not only that has many benefits in relieving constipation but it also keep optimal colon health with its good bacteria.
